A custom hoodie quote is a price for a defined product and production scope, not a standard price attached to the word “hoodie.” Two similar-looking garments can involve different fabric consumption, hood construction, decoration, finishing and packing. Before deciding which quote is competitive, check whether both factories are pricing the same specification.
Custom hoodie manufacturing cost depends on material specification and consumption, construction, decoration and washing, trims, order quantity and the services included. Separate one-time development charges from per-piece production, then identify packaging, inspection and shipping exclusions. A useful comparison starts with one revision of your brief, the same quantity breakdown and a clearly named delivery basis.
Separate three kinds of cost
Development and setup
Pattern development, sampling, artwork preparation and process trials may be charged separately. Record what each fee covers, how revisions are billed and whether any credit applies to the first bulk order.
Per-piece production
The garment price should identify included fabric, cutting, sewing, finishing, decoration, trims and packing. Do not add these charges twice if they are already included in the quoted unit price.
Order-level extras
Testing, third-party inspection, freight or destination services may sit outside the garment price. Ask for explicit inclusions and exclusions rather than assuming “finished hoodie” means delivered to your warehouse.
For a first-order comparison, multiply the agreed unit price by the order quantity, then add only separately billed items. Keep a second view for repeat production, but confirm which setup fees and material assumptions remain valid before treating that figure as a reorder price.
Fabric cost is more than GSM
Record fibre composition, knit construction, finished weight, colour and finishing requirements. A reference described only as “heavy cotton fleece” leaves several purchasing decisions open. If you are still choosing the material, use our heavyweight hoodie fabric and fit guide first; the costing step begins once those choices are sufficiently clear.
Also ask what consumption assumption supports the quote. Body width, length, sleeve volume, hood panels, size assortment and usable fabric width affect the cutting requirement. Request confirmation that consumption reflects your pattern direction and fabric, including any necessary allowances. GSM alone cannot establish how much material the complete hoodie uses.
Stock-supported fabric and custom development may have different purchase minimums. Ask whether matching rib is included, whether unused material is charged to your order and who retains any balance. These details matter when comparing a small run across several colours.
Price the actual hood, seams and trims
Specify a single- or double-layer hood, panel arrangement, lining material, pocket construction and pullover or zip-front opening. Include drawcords, eyelets, cord ends, zipper specification and reinforcement where required. Otherwise, the factory may quote a simpler construction than the one in your reference.
Even sewing inputs are specification-dependent. Coats' thread-consumption guidance identifies stitch and seam type, material thickness, layers and stitch density as relevant variables. That is not a universal surcharge formula; it is a reason to price the intended construction instead of comparing two unspecified “cut-and-sew” lines.
Define decoration and washing before comparing
For print or embroidery, provide artwork dimensions, placement count, colours and the intended technique. Ask which artwork preparation, screens, digitising, backing or application work is included. A small chest mark and a large multi-placement design should not share an unexplained decoration allowance.
For a washed hoodie, identify the target finish and agree how the fabric, rib, artwork and hardware will be trialled together. CottonWorks' shrinkage guidance explains that construction, processing and garment care all influence dimensional change. Do not price a wash using a universal shrinkage percentage or assume the pre-wash pattern is ready for bulk.
Request the costs and approval boundaries for wash trials and decoration samples. If a finish changes after sampling, ask for a revised quote tied to the new specification rather than assuming the first price still applies.
Quantity means style, colour and size breakdown
“One hundred hoodies” is not a complete quantity brief. Specify pieces by style and colour, then give the size assortment. Different fabrics, dye colours, rib, trims or artwork can introduce separate minimums and setup requirements. Ask the supplier to identify the actual constraint instead of quoting one unexplained MOQ.
A larger run may spread setup across more pieces, but it does not guarantee a particular discount. Request alternative quantities on the same specification and compare the total cash commitment as well as unit price. Do not lower cost by ordering stock your brand has no credible plan to sell.
A comparison table for real supplier quotes
Use the checklist below beside your actual written quotations. It is not a price list or a claimed factory case study. Record each supplier's answer and mark missing information as “not confirmed,” not zero cost.
| Quotation line | Compare on the same basis | Record from each quote |
|---|---|---|
| Specification | Same hoodie and document revision | Revision, date and listed deviations |
| Materials | Same fabric, hood lining and rib requirements | Material description and consumption assumptions |
| Production | Same construction, colour and size assortment | Currency, unit price and quantity basis |
| Decoration and wash | Same artwork, placements and approved finish | Included work, setup and trial charges |
| Development | Same sample stages and revision scope | Separate fees and written credit conditions |
| Branding and packing | Same labels, bags, inserts and carton requirements | Included components and additional minimums |
| Testing and inspection | Same agreed checks and release requirements | Included checks, external charges and responsibility |
| Delivery and payment | Same delivery basis, destination and payment assumptions | Freight scope, exclusions, validity and payment milestones |
When comparing delivered totals, request the named delivery term and place, packing assumptions and excluded destination charges. Our DDP and FOB shipping guide explains why a garment quote and a delivered quote are not interchangeable. Refresh transport estimates when final packing data is available.
What to send in your hoodie RFQ
Send one organised enquiry pack. A complete clothing tech pack helps, but clearly labelled references and a list of unresolved decisions are better than hidden assumptions.
- Product: pullover or zip hoodie, reference images, target measurements and size range.
- Materials: composition, finished GSM, fabric structure, colour, rib and hood lining.
- Processes: artwork files, dimensions, placements, wash reference and approval requirements.
- Components: zipper, drawcord, hardware, labels, hangtags and packaging.
- Order: quantity by style, colour and size, destination and target stock-in window.
- Commercial scope: required samples, testing, inspection, delivery basis and quotation validity.
Reduce cost by changing the brief openly
Ask for separately priced alternatives: fewer colourways, stock-supported materials, simpler hardware, fewer artwork placements or a different packaging specification. Keep each option identifiable so a lower price cannot silently replace the approved product.
Once an option is selected, confirm the sample and bulk specifications match. Use a pre-production sample approval to document the agreed result, and request an updated quotation whenever the approved scope changes.
Request a project-specific hoodie quoteSend Lesstell your hoodie brief and quantity breakdown for a feasibility and quotation review. MOQ starts from 50 pcs per style, subject to specifications, colour splits, fabric, trims, processes and supplier minimums. Confirm the actual price, sample-credit conditions and schedule in writing for your project.
Custom hoodie manufacturing cost FAQ
How much does a custom hoodie cost to manufacture?
There is no reliable universal price. Request a quote tied to fabric, construction, decoration, finishing, quantity and delivery scope. Keep development charges and excluded services visible alongside the unit price.
Does a higher GSM always mean a higher hoodie price?
GSM is only one input. Material specification, garment consumption, construction and finishing also affect the quote. Compare equivalent products before attributing a price difference to weight alone.
Are sample fees included in the bulk unit price?
Not automatically. Ask which development and sample charges are separate, what revisions they cover and whether a credit is available. Confirm its conditions rather than deducting it from your budget by assumption.
Why can splitting an order into more colours affect cost?
Additional colours may introduce separate material purchases, matching components, processing or setup requirements. Ask for the minimums and charges attached to each colour, not only the total garment quantity.
Can I get a hoodie quote without a finished tech pack?
You can request an initial review using references, intended materials, measurements and quantities. Identify unresolved details; treat the resulting price as provisional until the manufacturing specification and exclusions are confirmed.
What should I check before accepting the cheapest quote?
Match specification revision, quantity, included components, development fees, quality checks and delivery basis. Clarify missing lines first. A lower unit price is not evidence of lower total cost when the scopes differ.
