OEM = made to your design/tech pack. ODM = you adapt the factory's existing design. Private label = a product made and sold only under your brand. White label = a generic product multiple brands rebrand. OEM/ODM describe production; private/white label describe branding.
OEM — made to your design
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) means the factory produces a garment to your specification — your tech pack, fabric, fit, trims and details. You own the design; the factory manufactures it. This is how brands get a product nobody else has.

- You provide: tech pack or reference sample, artwork, spec.
ODM — adapt the factory's design
ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) means the factory already has developed styles/blocks, and you customise them — fabric, colour, trims, branding — rather than designing from scratch. Faster and cheaper than OEM, with less control over the base garment.
- Best for: brands wanting to launch quickly without a full design process.
- You provide: branding and customisation choices on an existing block.
Private label — your brand, your product
Private label describes branding and exclusivity: the product is developed for and sold only under your brand, with your labels, tags and packaging. It's usually built on an OEM or ODM production model. Private label is about owning the brand identity around the product.

White label — a generic product, rebranded
White label is a ready-made, generic product that multiple brands can buy and put their own label on. Fastest and cheapest to launch, but you're selling the same base garment as others — little differentiation.
OEM vs White Label: What’s the Difference?
OEM starts with your product specification: the manufacturer develops and produces the garment to that brief. White label starts with an existing generic product that multiple brands may buy and rebrand. They are not opposite factory types; one describes a manufacturing route, the other a branding model. Confirm design rights and exclusivity in writing.

An OEM garment can also use private-label branding. Replacing the label on an existing white-label blank does not make it OEM; the deciding factor is whether production began from the brand’s own product specification.
