Custom Labels, Tags & Packaging: The Details That Make It Your Brand

Two identical blank sweatshirts can sell for $30 or $130 — and a big part of that gap is the finishing. Labels, tags and packaging are what turn a good garment into your product: they're the first and last thing a customer touches, and they're where a brand either feels considered or generic. Here's what your options are, from the factory side.

Quick answer

The finishing kit is: a main label (woven or printed, or a neck print), care and size labels (often legally required), hangtags, and packaging (poly bag, box, tissue, stickers, inserts). Together they carry your branding from the neckline to the unboxing — and most can be developed to your spec from the first order.

Main labels — your logo at the neck

Woven label

Threads woven into a logo — durable, textured and premium. The default for elevated and streetwear brands. Damask (fine), satin or high-density.

Printed label

Printed on satin or cotton tape — softer and cheaper, good for a minimal or eco look. Tear-away options reduce neck irritation.

Woven vs printed

Woven reads more premium and lasts; printed is softer and lower-cost. Many brands use woven main + printed care.

Neck print

Printing the logo directly inside the neck (no label) — the clean, tagless streetwear look, often paired with a heat-transfer or screen print.

Care & size labels — usually not optional

Care labels (fibre content, wash instructions, country of origin) are legally required in most markets, including the US and EU — so these aren't just branding, they're compliance. They can be combined with the size label, printed on soft satin, and placed at the side seam or under the main label. Getting the content and language right for your target market is part of doing it properly.

Hangtags — the retail signal

Hangtags carry your logo, story, price and often a barcode/QR. Materials and finishes set the tone:

  • Stock: recycled kraft for a natural look, coated card for a sharp retail feel, or thick uncoated for premium.
  • Finishes: foil stamping, embossing, spot UV, die-cut shapes.
  • Attachment: cotton string, safety pin, plastic loop or a branded seal.

Packaging — the unboxing

Packaging is the experience your customer opens, and it's a strong, affordable branding lever:

  • Poly bags: custom-printed, frosted or recycled, with your logo and a tear strip.
  • Boxes & mailers: branded shippers or rigid boxes for premium drops.
  • Extras: tissue paper, stickers, thank-you cards, washi tape, inserts — small touches that make an unboxing feel intentional.

For DTC brands especially, the packaging is the retail environment — it's worth as much attention as the garment.

How it comes together as private label

Individually these are small details; together they're what "private label" actually means — a product developed and finished exclusively under your brand, from the woven label to the printed poly bag. The trims are yours, the packaging is yours, and nothing carries the factory's name. That's the difference between reselling a blank and owning a product.

Brand it end to end

Labels, tags & packaging FAQ

What's the difference between woven and printed labels?

Woven labels have the logo woven in thread — durable and premium. Printed labels are printed on tape — softer and cheaper. Many brands use a woven main label with a printed care label.

Are care labels required?

In most markets, yes. Fibre content, care instructions and country of origin are legally required (including US and EU), so care/size labels are compliance as well as branding.

Can I have a tagless neck print instead of a label?

Yes. A neck print puts your logo directly inside the collar for a clean, tagless look. Care information can then go on a small side-seam label.

Can you do custom packaging on a small order?

Yes. Custom poly bags, hangtags and inserts can be developed on most programs from 50 pcs per style, with more elaborate boxes viable as volume grows.

Do you develop the labels and packaging, or do I supply them?

Either. We can develop the full finishing kit to your artwork, or work with trims you supply. We confirm everything on a sample before bulk.
